Ricky Johnson Takes Second Win for Kumho Tires in Traxxas TORC Series
- Ricky Johnson Wins on Kumho Tires
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., May 29, 2009— Ricky Johnson and the Red Bull / Bosh Team take a second win for Kumho Tires at round 3 of the Traxxas TORC Series in Perris, CA in the hotly contested PRO 2 class. After taking home a trophy for first and second place at the season opener in Texas, Johnson would lead PRO 2 in points going into the weekend.
You could feel the excitement in the stands as the PRO 2 trucks make their way around the Perris Auto Speedway and line up to take the green flag. The race was scheduled for 20 laps, which was set against the scenic mountains and cool evening night sky.
As the green flag dropped, Johnson got on the go pedal and the dust began to fly. Ricky would lead the charge to the front for team Kumho and by lap 4 the Red Bull Bosch truck would cross the starting line in 2nd place. Within 2 laps Johnson fought his way past race leader Jeremy McGrath and would hold on to the lead as the yellow flag waived for a competition caution on lap 10.
Ricky Johnson would maintain the lead for the remainder of the race while putting distance on the 2nd and 3rd place drivers of Rob Maccachren and Todd Leduc. The win will keep Johnson in the points lead heading into round 4, Saturday, May 29. In addition to placing first in class Johnson was the recipient of the Oakley bomb award, a trophy in recognition of the truck with the fastest race lap.
“Kumho is pleased that all the hard work in the off-season is paying off for Barlow Motorsports and Ricky Johnson,” said Rudy Consolacion, Kumho Tires Motorsports manager. “It’s great to have the individual wins but the focus is on the championship in PRO 2 and consistency is key. Heading to Crandon with a points lead will be important because we know the challenge ahead of us going up against some very competitive teams that have more experience on the tracks next up on the schedule”
