Robert Stout Wins First Career Double On Kumho Tires
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. (April 29, 2009)—The NASA Mid-West region kicked off its 2009 season at the famed Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this past weekend and Robert Stout earned his first career double win in the Performance Touring Class (PTA).
Good weather was predicted all week but on Saturday cold weather and rain rolled in. Robert said “ the weather was just miserable with temps in the low 40’s and rain, our car doesn’t have defrost so we pulled the windshield out to keep it from fogging up. Needless to say it’s like driving a kart again in the rain.”
As Stout has proven on many occasions he is always fast in the wet. He put the Lucas Oil, E3 Spark plugs, Pro-Challenge Dodge Charger on the (PTA) pole in qualifying. “Kumho Tires gave us some awesome tires for the wet! I was really just checking out the car as we have made a lot of changes in the off season but everything went smooth so I rolled off a couple decent laps and pulled it in.”
Starting first in class and seventeenth overall there was plenty of racing to do and at the drop of the green flag the action started. The pole starter for the group got loose in the rain on the front straight and turned sideways in front of everyone so they all scattered. “I worked my way up to 9th over all and was still 1st in class but my shifter was getting sloppy as the race went on. It finally got to the point that I could barley down shift and was just trying to hang on for the win.” Stout would lose one spot to a driver in a different class earning a top ten spot overall and first in class win.
Race two same starting position of 17th, windshield out, temps at 42 degrees and raining. Robert got a clean start this time, and got a great run from the drop of the flag. Again he squeezed between the wall and two other cars going three wide down the front straight away and by the time he got to turn one had passed 5 drivers. “I timed it perfect and was already on the gas when Todd said Green Green Green, so I got a good run then I out braked one more at turn one.” Stout passed five at the start and then went on to pass six more cars in the group for a 1st in class finish and 6th overall.
It’s nice to bring home two wins for our sponsors, Lucas Oil is always there for us and E3 Spark plugs just jumped on board. The Kumho rain tires were unbelievable! We ran the same set all day and they still look great!
